In the field of architecture, striking a balance between work and leisure is essential for preserving creativity as well as developing a stronger bond with the spaces we create. At Kasa Arkhitekton, we think that architects aren’t only confined to their offices; rather, we try to spend as much time as possible in nature, taking in its lessons and letting it influence our projects. We traveled to Anilao, Batangas, this year, where we learned the skill of freediving and appreciated the undersea world’s beauty and challenges.

Although the constructed environment is frequently our main focus as architects, the natural world provides an enormous amount of inspiration that can have a major impact on our work. Our crew had the amazing chance to discover the delicate patterns of coral reefs, the graceful motions of marine life, and the tranquility that comes from being at one with the sea while freediving in The Asri Dive and Leisure Resort at Anilao, Batangas. These are priceless experiences that teach us how natural systems and forms may inform architecture design in addition to being enjoyable diversionary activities.

Similar to architecture, freediving demands a fundamental awareness of balance, space, and the capacity to maintain composure under pressure. Under the guidance of Coach Tiger and our very own Design Professional Staff member, Coach Gellian, who is also on the path to becoming an architect, our team learned the importance of patience, control, and respect for the natural environment. These skills apply directly to our profession, because great design requires precision and patience.

Our time in The Asri Dive and Leisure Resort at Anilao, Batangas offered us the opportunity to establish a closer bond with the natural world in addition to being a fun pastime. For architects who want to design places that are both useful and in harmony with their surroundings, this relationship is essential. We can better understand nature’s nuances and complexities by spending time in it; this understanding can then be incorporated into our ideas.

The idea that nature is among the best teachers an architect can have was strengthened during our stay in Anilao. Whether it’s the way water flows through a reef, the structural integrity of coral formations, or the adaptive behaviors of marine life, there are countless lessons to be learned from the natural world. These lessons remind us that our role as architects is not just to build but to build thoughtfully, with an awareness of the impact our designs have on the environment.

Our experiences in deep sea water have further solidified our commitment to sustainable design. By incorporating the principles of nature into our work, we aim to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also environmentally responsible. Freediving has taught us to move through the water with minimal impact, and we strive to bring that same mindfulness to our architectural projects.
